Talk therapy & counselling in Exeter

Sometimes you just need someone to talk to. Someone who actually gets it.

Talking therapy isn't one thing. It's a whole range of approaches — some focused on the present, some on the past, some on your relationships, some on the patterns you keep finding yourself in. What they share is a trained, trusted person in your corner, helping you make sense of what's going on.

If it's affecting your life, it's worth talking about.

Counselling

A space to talk — about what's happening now, what's happened before, and how it's all connected. Your counsellor listens without judgement, helps you make sense of things, and works at your pace. Good for anxiety, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, and anything that's been sitting heavy for a while.

Psychotherapy

Deeper and longer-term than counselling. Psychotherapy looks at the roots — the early experiences, patterns, and beliefs that shape how you show up today. If you've felt stuck in the same cycles for years and want to understand why, this is usually the right path.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. Sounds technical — the experience is usually surprising. EMDR works directly with how the brain stores difficult memories, without you having to go over everything in detail. One of the most researched therapies for trauma, and it often works faster than people expect. Also used for anxiety, phobias, and low self-worth.

Couples therapy

For when the relationship itself needs support. Couples therapy isn't just for crisis — it's for any two people who want to communicate better, understand each other more fully, or work through something that's become stuck. Our couples therapists use a range of approaches including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Coaching

More forward-focused than therapy. Coaching works well when you know roughly where you want to go but need support getting there — career decisions, life transitions, confidence, or clarity. Not a replacement for therapy when deeper emotional work is needed, but a powerful tool in its own right.

Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychologists are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of mental health difficulties, often working with more complex or long-standing presentations. If you've been through other support without it quite landing, or you're looking for a thorough psychological assessment alongside therapy, a clinical psychologist may be the right fit. Our clinical psychologist works with children, young people, and adults.
